Well, I don't like to Vox at work, because it's often about work, but I just haven't had much time at home. Or rather, after 8+ hrs in front of the work computer, jumping on at home just doesn't sound like fun.
The surgery went remarkably well. I didn't need crutches and can put
some weight on it. This morning I was even able to hobble from one
side of the apartment to the other before I needed to put my knee up.
As for the pain,
well, it doesn't look like I'll be tackling that
600 p. Pynchon novel I had my eye on, but I can probably read a Buffy
comic book ok. I'm also glad I stacked up on Monkees episodes. The
only real bad part is that the cats think they need to act like circus
freaks because Lincoln and I are home all day.
what i won't be reading:
If you knew you were about to lose your voice permanently, what is the last thing you would want to say?

"Get me some paper and a purple pen, will you dear?"
My mom is the spitting image of Hillary Clinton. She doesn't drink whiskey, but she especially looks like her in the beer-and-whiskey swilling video.
My dad is the spitting image of Jeff Bridges in Iron Man, except he has a bit more hair than that.
Last weekend was great. Got to hang with the ladies on Friday, and went to Jemez with my best bud on Saturday night. We spent six hours in one of my favorite bars in the world, catching up on years, and by the end we were locals.
Almost hated my job, until, with Sin's help, decided not to hate it. So now it's fun again. When you can't do what you need to do, due to external forces, it's fun and productive to instead do what you want to do.
And this weekend, seeing X! Lots of friends will be there, including 4 of my kids from my past life as a high school librarian. Haven't seen them since graduation 5 years ago. Most likely having a small soiree at home after.
And, looking forward to my surgery. I miss hiking and dancing and being active too much to put it off. I've got my housedress for the week picked out, a stack of books that need reading, kitties that need petting, and I'm getting all the Monkees episodes through Netflix.
Aaaaannnnndddd...I think that's it!
Look at the first post you ever wrote on Vox. What important developments or changes have occurred in your life since then?

Um, here's the post. I was looking forward to some meaty commentary on myself 1.5 yrs ago, but according to this post nothing has changed. I've gotten more out of debt, but am still in debt, (damn you student loans!). Have not bought a house, but am building up a down payment. As for travel, have been enjoying revisiting some favorite New Mexico haunts, and will be hitting Tom Waits in El Paso, Nick Cave in Denver, and hopefully Sin's sister in Portland OR this fall. (Oh yeah, I moved back to the States. I guess that's big)
As for the last one, I'm healthy if you don't count my arthroscopy this Monday, and I'm sane as long as I keep my sense of humor. That last one is the lesson of this week. :)
I'm much much happier than I was at that time, and that wasn't even one of my ambitions!
What's the best thing about today?
Pinon coffee and homemade granola? Still in the middle of morning...
As many of you have probably gathered, I'm embarking on this whole thing of compassion and understanding and loving kindness and all that jazz.
I've been researching the yogic and buddhist literature, and can't find an answer to this question:
Do I need to show compassion and loving kindness to creepy people, or can I go with my gut, self-preservation (ego, but perhaps a good use of ego) and ignore them / keep them at a long distance?
Thoughts?
Do you own your home? If not, do you have plans to buy a home in the near future?
No. Define "near". Right now about 1/4-1/3 of our income is going into a savings account, which is currently half-EF and half-downpayment. By April, about 1/2 of our income will be going into this account. So, that's the part we're doing.
I think we might wait longer than we'd like in order to see what this whole housing/mortgage mess is going to turn into, and to see how it will affect the local housing market. One thing that's also holding us back is we don't want one of those "affordable" cookie-cutter houses on the southside, in the same neighborhood as 7,000 people under the age of 18. We've been joking about moving into a retirement community first. :)
I would definitely like to own something before the decade is over, even if it's a plot of land an hour out of the city. Or a condo. Something.
